Research has shown that
developmental delays and learning issues are minimized in children who receive early intervention before
the age of 5.
The special education classes offered at Alcott School serve a range of
children with developmental and/or learning disabilities. The aim of
these special classes is to help each child achieve his or her potential.
This is done by providing small, warm, supportive classes staffed by
dedicated special education teachers, therapists, and teacher
aides/assistants.
The special
education services are for children who:
- Are 19 months
through 4 years of age
- May or may not
have had problematic births or neonatal vulnerabilities
- As infants may
be difficult or unresponsive
- Have cognitive
delays/learning disabilities, or normal or above normal intelligence
- Have language
and/or skill levels below that of their chronological peers
- Easily
distracted or hyperactive
- Are unrelated
- May be
emotionally compromised
- Have sensory
dysfunctions
- Have difficulty
playing with friends
