Mr. Andre's Class : January
“If you can’t fly then run, if you can’t run then walk, if you can’t walk then crawl, but whatever you do keep moving forward.”
Martin Luther King Jr
Happy New Year! We hope that you all had a wonderful holiday break. Welcome 2020.
Part of PBIS is having the children focus on their positive aspects and contributions to the room. As a group we are continuing to highlight all the kind things the children do. Outside of the classroom we listed some kind gestures that we noticed the children doing for their peers. We encourage you to do the same at home as well. Any opportunity big or small it is important to acknowledge and celebrate. The children have been doing well with our classroom structure regarding ground rules. We also have applied the same idea to how we conduct ourselves in the hallway. We guide the children to walk in hall, keep their feet on the floor and hands at their side and to use their soft voices. We explain to them that being respectful in the hall helps the children in other classrooms and adults in their office to be able to concentrate.
Coming up we are going to be talking about Dr. Martin Luther King and ways to all be kind to one another. Dr. King’s mission coincides with our Montessori philosophy as well as reinforcing the goals of our PBIS curriculum. As part of community building, we will be making stone soup and a friendship fruit salad. The soup will not have meat and we will use vegetable broth. We will send an email with the exact date in the next week or two. We are asking for each child to send in 1 fruit and 1 vegetable. Please do not cut the fruit or vegetable as we will have the children do it in school.
The Lunar New Year is approaching. If you would like to come in to celebrate, please let us know. We have many families that celebrate so we would love to have a few families come in.
A few reminders:
As the weather gets colder outside just a reminder that we still try to go outside every day even if it is only for a few minutes. The children should be dressed in warm clothes for going outside such as: jackets, mittens, hat, scarf and boots for snow. Please label everything with their first and last names to avoid confusion and upset.
When coming to school you should first stop in by the green bathroom to have your child use the rest room and wash hands before entering the classroom.
Please check outside of the classroom for your child’s host week if you haven’t had it already.
