Mr. Andre's Class : November
“The greatest sign of success for a teacher... is to be able to say, "The children are now working as if I did not exist.” (Maria Montessori)
Time is flying by as we are in November already. We wanted to tell you about your child’s “Host Week.” The purpose of the Host Week is to highlight every child and get to know them as well as their families. Throughout the week we will ask for Host facts (favorite color, where were you born, do you have any siblings etc.) Each child will have a week where they are the host of the class. We will send home on Friday 5 picture frames. We are asking for 5 photos of your child, family, grandparents, babysitters etc. The pictures will be posted around the classroom for the week. Families will have the opportunity to come in during your child’s host week to read a story, do a project, cook, sing a song, or anything else you feel comfortable with. We are also asking that you send one bouquet of flowers for your host week. The flowers will be added to the peace table in our classroom as one way your child brings peace to the classroom. Note that you do not have to wait until your child’s host week to come in. If you or a family member would like to come in please let us know and we can set up a day and time. Please do not stress or worry about your Host week. This is a fun week where we get to know all about your child. If you have any other ideas or questions please ask. The host weeks will be posted outside of the classroom. Please make note of your child’s host week.
As the school year progresses behaviors will shift and change as well. Currently we have noticed in our class many of the children mimicking or copying different behaviors, not always positive. This is a perfect example of how PBIS (Positive Behavior Intervention and Support) will be used in our classroom. Instead of focusing on some of the negative behaviors we are going to have an “ideas jar.” The jar will highlight the positive things the children contribute to the class throughout different periods of the day. Hopefully after going through this over the next few weeks we will begin see a shift in behavior. It will be a celebration of the children’s unique and positive ideas they have within themselves. This is something that can be done at home as well. Being able to point out all the good things children do will boost their self-esteem and encourage growth and maturity.
As a reminder, we try to go outside every day if we can. Please send your child with warm clothing (jacket, gloves hat, snow pants…) and please label everything. Please note that if your child needs their lunch microwaved it must be in a microwavable container.
We are going to celebrate a “Traditional” Thanksgiving on Friday, November 22nd at 11:30. All families are welcome to attend our Thanksgiving lunch feast. We will be positing a sign-up sheet for food outside of our classroom door. Full Day children do not have school on November 22nd due to conference day. You are invited to come for the Thanksgiving lunch. If you need your child to attend school that day please make arrangements with the front office. There will be a fee to attend for the full day. Thank you.
