“Children are one third of our population and all of our future.”
(- Select Panel for the Promotion of Child Health 1981)
Dear Families,
The school year is off and running. The first few weeks of school have been wonderful. We can see by the children’s smiling faces, hearing their laughter and conversations that they have been excited about school.
During the first few weeks we have been really focusing on the routines, procedures and structure in the classroom in order to promote free choice. The children have been learning how to care for their environment by practicing roll up a mat, walking around the work mat, pushing in their “danger chairs”, and cleaning up after they are done with a work. The purpose of spending the time on these things is for the children to have a strong foundation of the Montessori philosophy in regards to respect one another as well as the environment. In order for the children to be successful in a Montessori classroom we have to encourage them to use their independence. Below you will find a few of the works that have been put out in the classroom. It is important to remember the work is set for every child’s individual needs. We are here to support your children as well as the families in any way we can. Just as a reminder if you need to schedule time to speak, it is always best to email AThomas@alcottschool.org this way we can schedule an appropriate time to speak without the children being present. We are going to be build a family tree in our classroom. Please send in a family photo so we can display it on our tree. If it is easier for you to email the photo feel free and we can print it out.
