Issue: February 1 - February 12, 2021
Reminder: School closed February 15th - 19th for Winter Recess
Dear parents,
We are fast approaching the end of January. We are so grateful that we are still in person learning and everyone has been following the Covid19 policies and regulations very well.
In January we covered the letters M, N, O, and P. For letters M and N we learned about Migration (birds, nest, traveling from North America to warmer places) and hibernation (animals that sleep in the winter, how they survive and what do they eat). For letters O and P we learned about Polar Animals: penguins, polar bears, otter, arctic fox, blue whale etc. We learned about the North and South Poles; how animals adapt to the cold weather.
In science we experimented with shortening to compare and contrast how polar animals’ fat around their body keeps them warm in cold water. We read books about the polar animals, sang songs about the polar bear, and danced the penguin dance. The children had so much fun with the hands-on animal prints activity when they each chose a polar animal toy, pressed the feet into modeling clay and matched the footprint to the correct polar animal.
All the best,
Kaltrina, Diane, Ruby and Marie
