Dear Parents,

We hope you enjoyed the winter break with your children. Over the last two weeks of school we were busy learning about China and celebrating Chinese New Year. The children learned about the twelve animals of the Chinese calendar and Chinese calligraphy.

For Groundhog Day we showed pictures of Punxsutawney Phil who unfortunately saw his shadow and we will have six more weeks of winter! We took the opportunity to teach the children about shadows and that they appear when an object blocks the light. We then went outside and looked for our shadows in the snow - we had tons of fun!

For Valentine’s Day we had breakfast, read books and discussed ways to be kind to one another. We started learning about the value of our currency. Ms. Melissa joined us over Zoom and played her new drums! We also learned new words in Spanish with Ms. Cristina.

Over the next few weeks, we will learn about nutrition and our five senses. We will learn about getting and staying healthy, healthy eating and the importance of exercise. We will also remind the children about proper handwashing and ways to stop germs from spreading. We will create activities, games and experiments on these topics.

We are going to celebrate Dr Seuss’s birthday, March 2nd, by reading his books and analyzing the stories and rhymes he’s so famous for. We will also continue practicing the sounds for the letters [v] and [h] and will start building phonetic words with the sounds we’ve learned so far.

Kindest regards,

Eva and Helene
