Ms. Katalin's Class : November 2019

NOVEMBER NEWSLETTER

Dear Parents,

Hello again! And WOW, the time sure is flying by. Things in school are great! Can you believe that it is already November?

Well, there have been many things that have been keeping us busy. We had our fun fall activities to help us celebrate Halloween. The children enjoyed washing pumpkins, carving pumpkins, eating roasted pumpkin seeds, listening to stories (like "The Big Green Monster"), going trick or treating and making ghost bananas. They are also enjoying our Movement and Music classes along with our monthly Nature class.

The children are ready for a change and are doing well with the new activities. The new activities sometimes present more of a challenge which supports growth in their development. Some new activities include:

· interlocking a floor puzzle

· a new language activity using the book "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" with small fabric pieces to correlate with the story

· scissor cutting on our play dough table

· using a tong to transfer pompoms of different colors  into a cupcake pan

· transferring beads from one bowl to another with their full hand

· pouring their own drinking water from a small pitcher into their cup

In addition, we will have paint at one side of the easel. Oatmeal and cinnamon will replace leaves at the sensory table. As a whole, the children are progressing very well and are doing great but more importantly having fun. Almost everyone has conquered separation and it is wonderful to see their happy, smiling faces as they enter the classroom and eagerly find work. We are learning to use words like “my work”, “may I play with you?” or “Stop, I don’t like it”. We also are learning words “please, thank you and hello” in different languages. Thank you for signing up for celebrating holidays.

A LOOK AHEAD:

We will begin talking and reading about Thanksgiving over the next upcoming weeks. Our art activities will also incorporate this theme. We plan on explaining to the children that Thanksgiving is a day when we are thankful for our family, friends and food. Also, that it is a special day when many family members and friends sit around a big table and eat a big dinner. Keep in mind, as you prepare for the holiday at home, that the children are great helpers. Please join us for our Thanksgiving party on Monday, November 25 from 10:45-11:30 am. A sign-up sheet for food contributions will be posted in front of the classroom when the date gets a little closer.

Parent Teacher Conferences are coming up very soon. We have two dates for the conferences November 21 for evening times and November 22 for morning times. During the conference, please be aware of the time so that we can do our best to stay on schedule. If you feel that you need a longer conference, please let us know so that we can make the arrangements. Lastly, it is imperative that you make childcare arrangements for your conference time since this is a meeting strictly for adults.

Here are words to a few songs that we have been singing in school at circle time. I hope you enjoy them. Have a great holiday.
