Happy Fall! I hope that the official start of autumn finds everyone healthy and well. School certainly looks different for the children. The desks are spaced apart. Masks are being worn in school. Despite the changes to the schooling experience, regardless of how different things might seem, our class is brimming with joy to be back in school. My assistants and I see the joy and excitement in the children’s faces each morning when we open those doors and welcome them to the start of a new day. They are happy and ready to come to school… eager to work (play). Your children are laughing and learning and exploring materials, making connections with classmates and teachers. Our class has been busy learning to follow rules and routines to maintain a peaceful and safe classroom environment. The children are working on a daily basis on the introductory lessons (walking feet, walking on a line, carrying a tray, pushing in a chair, washing hands, etc.) The focus for the next two weeks will be on family and community. We will read storybooks about the basic human needs and how they are satisfied by the family and the community.

Practical Life: Dry Pouring 1-1 without handles, Dry Pouring 1-1 with handles (children will work on the ability to pour from one vessel to another without spilling), Spooning activity, Taking off/ putting on a jacket (develops care of self, independence) Folding socks (develops concentration, small muscle control) Screwdriver Board and Clamping Clothespins (develops fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination), Raking Leaves (develops coordination, concentration, care of the environment).

 

Science: Children will collect leaves, twigs, acorns etc. and practice observation skills. They will match their Nature findings with the color tablets and discuss the colors they see the most during the fall season. Read: “Germs Make Me Sick” by Melvin Berger

 

Sensorial: Red Rods (arranging the rods from longest to shortest, develops sense of order, independence, coordination and concentration) Color Tablets: Primary, Secondary and Tones (develops visual discrimination, names of colors) Read: “My Five Senses” by Aliki
