Dear Parents,

Oh, the children loved our author study! These past few weeks the children had such a wonderful time listening to Eric Carle books.  We enjoyed reading and making crafts for our favorite books. As the children were engaged in creating their craft, they were retelling details and events that took place in the story. We dedicated several weeks to this unit and the children enjoyed this author study very much.  The children voted which Eric Carle book was their favorite and The Hungry Caterpillar won!!! Our bulletin board outside of our classroom has a huge caterpillar and is dedicated to all our Eric Carle crafts. The children take such pride in looking at their creation every time they are waiting on line outside of the classroom.  It was wonderful to observe the children looking and pointing to their creations. We will soon start another author study because it was such a huge success.

We had a visit from the Greenburgh Nature Center. The naturalist brought an owl, hedgehog, and a guinea pig. The children learned that an owl could turn its head all around. The children were fascinated by that, so they tried to turn their heads too. The children learned that hedgehogs have spikes to protect themselves from predators. Also, when guinea pigs get excited, they repeatedly perform little hops in the air, known as popcorning. We can’t wait for the next visit.

Warm Regards,

Ms. Victoria, Ms. Francine, and Ms. Nancy
