Ms. Katalin's Class : March
Spring is in the air and the classroom is buzzing with new activities. We would like to share a few exciting things we are planning for this month.
Our main focus will be on sharing. The children will practice lots of cooperative play skills such as but not limited to: taking turns, sharing a chore or a toy and building with blocks together. We have several matching games and bingo which allow children to play together. We will be reading books about friendship and sharing: The Rainbow Fish, I Can Share and Fox Makes Friends. Just wait and see the group art project that we will be doing for our bulletin board area. All of these activities build positive relationships.
In our math area, we will introduce two new shapes…rectangle and rhombus (diamond). The children will participate in a shape hunt in the classroom. Searching the environment for the shapes demonstrates a higher level of thinking.
The sensorial area, is about taking in our environment by using our senses. With this mind we are introducing a smelling activity. The children will become familiar with the smell of cinnamon sticks, cloves, vanilla and coffee beans. From past experience, we know it is a very popular activity. We are continuing our food tasting activity. After the pineapple, we will taste snow peas, broccoli and green peppers.
In the next few weeks, we will introduce name cards with the children’s name and photo which we will use at circle time. The purpose of this activity is for the children to not only recognize their name but also their friends’ names. In this way, letters become important to them.
We will also introduce a “buildings around the world” activity. Children will become familiar with the Statue of Liberty, Eiffel Tower, Pyramids of Giza, Big Ben, Taj Mahal, etc.
We would like to invite you to share your family heritage with the class. You can read books, prepare food, share a native dance, music, etc. Let us know what works for you. If you would like to come and celebrate Easter, Passover or spring with us, please do not hesitate to contact us.
We are looking forward to seeing you at parent-teacher conferences on March 19 and 20. Please look for the sign-up sheet posted in front of our classroom.
Thank you for your continuous support.
