Ms. Megan's Class : January

January 6-24, 2020

Dear Families,

Welcome back! We hope you had a wonderful holiday break!

This week’s theme is Snow and Winter!

This month’s nature visit will be on Tuesday, January 7th!

Vocabulary words we are using:

Snow, winter, snowman, ice, hat, jacket, boots, mittens, skiing, sledding, snowboarding

Movement:

The students will participate in different winter themed “sports” activities such as throwing snowballs, rocker board snowboarding, and wax paper ice skating.

We are reading: "Mouse’s First Snow" by: Lauren Tompson, "Peppa Pig and the Day at Snowy Mountain" by: Candlewick Press

Art projects:

● The children will use blue dot paints, crayons, and markers to decorate paper that will be cut into snowflakes

● The children will play with snowflake stampers and stickers

● The children will make a “melted” snowman with white paint, a hat, eyes, and nose

● The children will color an ice skate and glue tin foil squares for the blade

● The children will make themselves a snowboarder by painting snow, gluing on a popsicle stick board, and gluing their face on a snowboarder’s body

We are singing:

To the Tune of: The Wheels on the Bus

The mittens on my hands keep me warm,

Keep me warm, keep me warm

The mittens on my hands keep me warm,

All winter long!

The hat on my head keeps me warm,

Keeps me warm, keeps me warm,

The hat on my head keeps me warm,

All winter long!

The boots on my feet keep me warm,

Keep me warm, keep me warm

The boots on my feet keep me warm,

All winter long!

I’m a Little Snowman

I’m a little snowman short and fat,

Here are my buttons, here is my hat.

When the sun comes out, I can not play,

I just slowly melt away!

10 Little Snowflakes

One little, two little, three little snowflakes,

Four little, five little, six little snowflakes,

Seven little, eight little, nine little snowflakes,

Ten little snowflakes on my tongue! (stick out tongue)

[Ten little snowflakes on my hat! (pat head)]

[Ten little snowflakes on my mittens! (wiggle hands)]

[Ten little snowflakes on my boots! (point to feet)]

In our sensory bin: Fake snow and “plow” trucks

Other activities: The students will participate in ice luge races! We will be freezing Lego people in ice cubes and the students will take turns sending them down a ramp.

You can follow through with this theme at home by...

● Using vocabulary words listed above

● Reading "Mouse’s First Snow" and "Peppa Pig and the Day at Snowy Mountain"

● Re-creating art projects and activities at home

● Singing our songs listed above

Have a great week!

Megan
